Who controls your internet access?

Since its inception, the Internet has been a bastion of free and equal access to information. Now, the titanic corporations of the telecommunications industry want to charge exorbitant fees to website owners to guarantee access. Those who do not pay these fees will have their web presence “downgraded.” In other words, access to non-paid websites would be slower than paid sites, or even blocked entirely.
