Is text messaging evolving language? 

The evolution of language is a difficult route to trace. Dialects are formed as variations of a language within a speech community, and are integral to the socialization factor of an individual. In our current digital age, the growing need for connectivity has invented a new method of communication — the realm of text messaging. Many people have become skeptical of this recently introduced idiom, referring to text messaging as a “mutilation of language”.

Is text messaging detrimental to the grammatical skills of youth culture, or are they capable of distinguishing between proper English and digital dialect?
